Trichanthera is a small to medium sized shrub that grows to about 5 m high but reach to a height of 12-15 m. The initial yield of Trichanthera is about 15 t/ha/year of fresh matter, first harvest is 8 to 10 months after establishment.

Leucaena is a fast growing, evergreen, thornless shrub that grows up to 20 m tall. This perennial legume is well adapted to our local conditions and can be seen growing wild along the roadways. This is also so with gliricidia especially in Tobago.

Tithonia is a tropical shrub rich in protein, valuable for feeding ruminants and rabbits. It is a woody herb or succulent shrub, stoloniferous, annual or perennial, that can reach a height of 2 to 3 m. Mexican sunflower is a fast-growing plant that tolerates heat and drought and can rapidly form large herbaceous shrubs.
